Formed 15 February 1941 according to one source or o/a 17 March 1941 according to other sources. The earlier date may be the date formation was ordered or first appeared in a “Barbarossa” planning document for the invasion of the USSR, while the second date is the date its formation actually got underway.[1]
North and Central Russia
21 Jun 41: Koluft at Tilsit on the border of East Prussia and Lithuania - subordinated this date: 6 Aufklärungsstaffeln (4.(F)/33; Gruppenfliegerstab 13 with 3.(H)/32, 3.(H)/41; Gruppenfliegerstab 23 with 2.(H)/23, 3.(H)/23, 3.(H)/31), Kurierkette Panzergruppe 4, 5 Flak-Abt. (Flakregimentsstab 164 with I./3, II./23, II./411, le.83, le.92) and Ln.-Betr.Kp. (H) (mot.) 4.
Jun 41 – May 42: supported 4th Panzer Group (later 4th Panzer Army) operations from 22 June via Lithuania, Daugavpils/Latvia, Lake Ilmen area and Novgorod, then north to Lake Ladoga and the encirclement of Leningrad. Shifted south to the central sector of the front in September, and then from October began the offensive toward Moscow in the Gzhatsk-Mozhaisk area directly west of the Russian capital. Retreated to the Vyazma area in February 1942 following the Soviet counteroffensive.
28 Jun 41: Koluft transferred to Utena/Lithuania.
28 Jun 41: a Fi 156 belonging to the Kurierkette Panzergruppe 4 crash landed at Rosinie, 65%.
2 Jul 41: Koluft transferred to Daugavpils/Latvia.
3 Sep 41: Koluft transferred to Siverskaya near Leningrad.
14 Sep 41: Koluft transferred from Siverskaya to Roslavl on the central sector of the Russia Front.
9 Oct 41: Koluft transferred to Yukhnov/SE of Vyazma.
15 May 42: Koluft disbanded on or about this date.
