Kurierstaffel 3


Formation. (Aug 39)

Initially formed approx.. 26 August 1939 with 6 aircraft for assignment to Heeresgruppe Nord at Bad Polzin.[1]

14 Sep 39:

Sep 39 – Aug 41: no information has been found.

Oct 39: during October the Heeregruppe was transferred to the Western Front together with Kurierstaffel 3. There they were based in the Münster and WeseI area and the army group was renamed Heeresgruppe B. In August 1940, the Heeresgruppe and Kurierstaffel 3 moved back to the East and were based in

East Prussia. The army group was renamed again with the start of the attack on Russia (Operation Barbarossa) and became Heeresgruppe Mitte. [2]

Sep 41: the Kurierstaffel was based in Senno, Russia/21 km W of Pskov in September 1941, and later in the month moved to Smolensk where it stayed until September 1943. [3]

22 Sep 41: Staffel attached to Koluft/Heeresgruppe Mitte.[4]

29 Sep 41: Kl 35 damaged taxiing at Fp. Smolensk, 10%.[5]

24 Jan 42: still assigned to Koluft/Heeresgruppe Mitte.[6]

29 Mar 42: Staffel air crew member reported WIA during enemy air attack on Fp. Smolensk. [7]

28 May 42: Ju 52 damaged on the ground during Russian raid on Fp. Smolensk.

30 Aug 42: Staffel pilot WIA by machine gun fire near Zhizdra/48 km NNE of Bryansk.

30 Oct 42: Fi 156 bombed on the ground at Vitebsk, 30%.

1 Dec 42: Ju 52 shot up by AA fire and force landed at Parshino, 60%.

30 Dec 42: Fi 156C-3 damaged undercarriage at Fp. Smolensk, 25%.

2 Jun 43: Fi 156 crashed while taking off from a grass strip at Barsuki, 60%, pilot and an Army passenger both injured.

20 Jul 43: 2 Fi 156s shot up by Russian fighters and forced down south of Sudimir/43 km NNE of Bryansk, 80% and 70%.

2 Aug 43: Fi 156 shot up and force landed near Botshak (not located), 50%.

23 Aug 43: Fi 156 flipped while landing at Studenets, 10%.

15 Oct 43: still attached to Heeresgruppe Mitte - renamed 13./Fliegerverbindungsgeschwader 2 at Baranowicze (Baranowitschi), Belorussia. [8]
