Kurierstaffel 40
Formation and History. (Spring 43 - Oct 43)
Formed c. March 1943 at Dnepropetrovsk in South Russia for assignment to Pz.AOK 4 by renaming Verbindungsstaffel 62, which had been decimated during the heavy fighting around Stalingrad. Assets from Kurierkette/Pz.AOK 4 may also have been used in its formation. Operated from Beresovka (May 43), Achtyrka (Jul 43 - in north-central Ukraine 101 km WNW of Kharkov), Lebedin (Aug 43 - 140 km NW of Kharkov) and Makarov (Makariv) (Sep-Oct 43 - 51 km W of Kiev )in South Russia and Ukraine, and attached to an unidentified Armeeoberkommando (AOK, probably still Pz.AOK 4) until 1 – 15 Oct 43 when it was renamed 24./Fliegerverbindungsgeschwader 2.[1]
