Luftgaukommando XII/XIII

(FpN: none assigned)

Kommandierender General:

Gen.d.Flakart. Friedrich Heilingbrunner (30 Jan 41 - 18 May 43)

Luftflottenkdo. 3 (30 Jan 41 - 21 Mar 41)

Luftwaffenbefehlshaber Mitte (21 Mar 41 - 18 May 43)

Subordinate Commands:

Kommando Flughafenbereiche (airfield regional commands) and Fliegerhorstkommandanturen (air base commands), Luftnachrichten (air force signals), Sanitäts (medical), Flak (antiaircraft), civil air defense, supply, schools, replacements and sundry other ground service and support commands, staffs and units located within its territory of authority. These changed frequently and in the absence of surviving source documentation it is not possible to list them accurately or completely.

Formation and History. (Jan 41 - May 43)

Formed 30 January 1941 in Wiesbaden through the consolidation of Luftgaukdos. XII and XIII. Comprising the territory of both Luftgaukommandos and conforming approximately to the area of the Army’s Wehrkreise XII and XIII, it supported Luftflotte 3 in France by providing manpower and ground organization units for assignment to Luftgaukommando Westfrankreich. On consolidation, Luftgaukdo. XIII’s administrative staff (Verwaltungsstab) had remained in existence in Nürnberg, but this was later disbanded on 18 January 1943. On 18 May 1943 the dual designation (XII/XIII) was dropped and the Stab re-designated Luftgaukommando XII. Luftgaukdo. XIII was never reestablished.[1]

Formation, History and Losses. (Jan 41 - May 43)

No information has so far come to light about the duty flight assigned to Luftgaukdo. XII/XIII, except for the aircraft lost and damaged reports noted below.[2]

9 Dec 41: a Klemm Kl 35 belonging to Flugbereitschaft Lufgaukdo. XII/XIII force landed at Gutenstetten, 30%.

8 Nov 42: He 111 H-2 (AC+IQ) crashed at Casablanca/Morocco, 100%, 3 missing. This loss as well as the next one were charged to Flugbereitschaft Lufgaukdo. XII/XIII but the aircraft in fact may have belonged to or on loan to the Kurierstaffel der deutschen Waffen-Stillstandskommission based at Wiesbaden. Alternately, the crews may have been from the Luftgaukdo. and the aircraft from the Kurierstaffel or vice versa.

11 Nov 42: Ju 52 (AQ+DE) crashed at Casablanca/Morocco, 100%, 3 missing.

30 Apr 43: a Caudron C 445 from Flugbereitschaft Lufgaukdo. XII/XIII belly landed at Wiesbaden-Erbenheim airfield, 10%.
