Luftgaustab z.b.V. 12

(FpN: L 16233)

Kommandeur:

Gen.Maj. Hans-Gebhard von Kotze (26 Oct 39 - 23 Jun 40)

Gen.Maj. Alfred Mahncke (c.30 Oct 39 - 30 Sep 40)

Gen.Maj. Albert Vierling (1 Jan 40 - 22 Oct 40)

Formation and History. (Oct 39 - Oct 41?)

Formed o/a 26-30 October 1939, probably in the West under Luftflotte 3. Provided logistical support during the attack on France and the Low Countries that began on 10 May 1940, moving forward behind the ground troops to take over, stock and operate airfields for tactical aircraft. It was located in Arnhem on 14 May, at Soesterberg on 17 May and then advanced into Belgium. On 16 July 1940, after the campaign had concluded, the Stab was located in Paris under Luftflotte 3 and subordinated a single airfield regional command (Kdo.Flughafenbereich 1203). Disbanded o/a 14 October 1940. It has not been possible to sort out and correctly identify the commanders of this Luftgaustab z.b.V., even using the very best sources for this sort of information.[1]
