Formation and History. (Jun 42 - Aug 44)
Formed 1 June 1942 at Kirkenes/N Norway by renaming Seenotzentrale (L) Polarküste. Subordinated to Seenotdienstführer 5. Exercised tactical control over sea rescue assets deployed above the Arctic Circle in N Norway and N Finland. Stab later moved to Tromsø but the date of the transfer is not known. Renamed Seenotgruppe 51 at Tromsø on 19 August 1944.[1]
