Sondergruppe/LLG 1


Formed c. August 1943 in South France as a small temporary staff for the movement of LLG 1 glider forces to central Italy to support the transfer of the 2. Fallschirmjäger-Division to the Rome area. [1]


History

16-17 Sep 43: reported several crashes and accidents along the route from South France via Pisa to Pratica di Mare/ 28 km S of Rome.

17 Sep 43: attacked on the ground by B-17 and B-26 bombers from U.S. XII Bomber Command with grievous losses:

3 x Do 17s at 100%,

1 Do 17 at 10%,

3 Hs 126s at 100%,

5 Avia B 534s at 100%,

2 Avia B 534s at 50% to 60%,

19 DFS 230 gliders at 100%,

25 DFS 230 gliders at 50% to 80%,

13 DFS 230 gliders at 25% - 40%.

Sondergruppe was disbanded a few days later.
