No information found in the primary documents as to exact date and place of formation, but a published source says it was ordered formed in April 1941 for employment in Ukraine and South Russia. [1]
South Russia. (Jun 41 - c. Dec 44)
7 Sep 41: Fi 156 crash landed near Vinnitsa, 40%.[2]
27 Sep 41: Fi 156 crashed near Baisin (Baysyn?), 80%, 2 injured.
1 Nov 41: Fw 58 (BK+HG) lost at or near Dnepropetrovsk – no details, 100%, 2 killed.
Nov 41 – May 42: transferred to Germany and disbanded, with assets returned to the schools. Ordered re-established c. 25 April 1942 for assignment in South Russia attached to I. Flakkorps.[3]
14 Jul 42: Fi 156 crash landed at Fp. Poltava, 30%.
23 Jul 42: Fi 156 damaged its undercarriage and crashed at Stalino, 40%.
5 Nov 42: Staffel trf from Voroshilovsk (Stavropol’) to Pyatigorsk.[4]
27 Nov 42: Bf 108 bombed on the ground at Fp. Belorechenskaya/77 km ESE of Krasnodar in North Caucasia, 60%.
20 Dec 42: Fi 156 struck the ground and crashed – location not reported, 95%, Oberst i.G. Stelzer, Chef d.Genst. I. Flakkorps plus another killed, and 1 injured.
21 Dec 42: Fi 156 crash landed at Krasnodar, 95%.
9 Mar 43: Fi 156 (W.Nr. 5434) force landed at Fp. Kuteinikovo/125 km NW of Rostov in bad weather, 30%. [5]
23 Apr 43: 2 of the Staffel’s W 34s airlifted three 2 cm Gebirgsflak guns from Makeyevka to Kerch for a special operation to be carried out by 9. Flak-Div. [6]
8 May 43: Fi 156 reported missing – no details, 100%, pilot MIA.
Sep 43: at Kirovograd. [7]
15 Oct 43: Luftflotte 4 “borrowed” the Staffel’s Ju 52 to fly aviation fuel from Rotmistrovka to Mal. Beresovka. [8]
Oct 43 – Oct 44: Ukraine, Romania and S Poland with station at Uman (Oct 43), Tiraspol (Feb 44), Focşani/E Romania (Apr 44), then to Kraków/S Poland where it was located in late Oct 44. [9]
29 Oct 44: order issued by OKL for this unit’s disbandment “with immediate effect” to be carried out by Luftflotte 6 and to be completed by 20 Nov 44.[10]
Dec 44: disbanded. Staffel’s Feldpost number deleted 2 Jan 45.[11]
