Target Code

These codes defined the type of target and its catalogue number in the index. They were made up of three elements:-

Country/Area Code; Group Number; Unique Reference within Country/Type.

So, for a British Target an example would be GB 10 17 (GB = Great Britain, 10 = Airfield, 17 = Biggin Hill).

Other country prefixes include:

ET = Egypt; example ET 10 161 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 161 = Abar el Afan)

FA = French (North) Africa; example FA 10 395 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 395 = Sedrata, Algeria); a further example would be FA 10 490 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 490 = Amara, Tunisia)

FR = France, see Target Codes page for a link to a listing of French airfield codes.

IA = Italian Africa; example IA 10 7 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 7 = Ain El Gazala - West)

SO = Rumania (?); example SO 10 245 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 245 = Constanza); a further example would be SO 40 219 (40 = Bahnhof/Railway Station 219 = Campina.

SU = Soviet Russia; example SU 10 14092 (10 = Flugplatz/Airfield 14092 = Kaki); a further example would be SU 41 14 (41 = Eisenbahnbrüche/Railway Bridge 14 = Kalinin, over the Wolga/Volga River).
